EMVA 1288 Photon Transfer testing

In a recent newsletter we announced that Quest Innovations joined the European Machine Vision Association EMVA. One of the achievements of EMVA is their EMVA1288 standard for the characterization of image sensors and cameras. The EMVA1288 standard unifies the methods to measure, compute and present parameters and characterization data. Quest Innovations will start to provide EMVA1288 compliant camera characteristics for new camera models.

Photon Transfer (PT) is a testing method that is at the core of the EMVA1288 standard. With this method the camera is considered as a black box with light as input and digital data as output. The light input is subject only to shot noise, due to the nature of the photons. Shot noise can be estimated very precisely at given illumination levels. Any difference between the noise at the input and output must be introduced by the camera or electronics.

From a Photon Transfer measurement many characteristics of a camera can be computed, such as full well capacity, read noise, fixed pattern noise, temporal noise, sensitivity, signal to noise ratio and dynamic range. As a matter of fact, it is a remarkable result of many years of research that so many parameters of an imaging system can be derived from only an image’s average intensity and its noise.

Multispectral cameras available with M42 lens mount

MS5-VNN-285-CL-news

Five channel multispectral cameras are now available with a new lens mount interface: M42. The M42 lens mount is a screw thread mounting standard for attaching lenses to cameras. It is more accurately known as the M42 × 1 mm standard, which means that it is a metric screw thread of 42 mm diameter and 1 mm thread pitch. This lens mount allows special designed 400 - 1000 nm apochromatic lenses making it an ideal combination for multispectral measurements.

The Condor-1000 MS5-285 is a 2/3" prism camera based on the Sony ICX285 sensor, an interline CCD solid-state image sensor with a square pixel array. Three sensors capture the red, green and blue visible colors, while the remaining two are used for near infrared bands 700-850nm and 850-1000nm. For each channel it provides a programmable LUT and independent gain and exposure control. All channels are synchronized to prevent motion aberration between channels.

More information about this camera is available at the Condor-1000 MS5-VNN-285 product page.

New distributors for Spain and Portugal

AlavaMRA

As per April 2011 Quest Innovations added two new European distributors to their growing list of distributors:  Alava Ingenieros in Spain and MRA instrumentacao in Portugal. We would like to introduce both companies in this newsletter.

Alava Ingenieros Group is an entirely privately owned group which has been providing high technology solutions in the Testing, Measurement, Communications Security, Defence and Preventive Maintenance fields since it was first founded in 1973. The group offers consultancy, engineering, distribution, training and technical services, providing turn-key projects for several sectors including Aerospace, Automotive, Security, Defence, Communications and Finance, as well as Testing and Research Centres, Universities, Public Services and Industry in general.

With a team of over 175 professionals (70% of whom have an engineering degree) and a turnover of more than € 40 million, Grupo Alava Ingenieros has experienced an average annual growth of 15% throughout the last decade thanks the its ability to adapt to the specific needs of its customers and its responsible attitude towards supplies and services carried out, all of which is backed by - solid international partnerships - in-house resources for integration, installation and after-sales technical service.

All information about these companies (and others) can be found at the distributor-section of our website.
